Join our OCBC Community Discord Server!

Why Discord for OCBC?

• As a common tool to enhance fellowship and communication within the OCBC community.
• To provide a central point for dissemination of information.

What is Discord?

Discord is a free voice, video, and text chat program that’s used by over 200 million people (ages 13+) to meet and hang out with their friends and communities. Discord has also been used to create communities during the pandemic by groups such as schools, churches, clubs, etc.

What Makes Discord Different?

Discord gives you the ability to create your own community. Your Discord server is a private community shared with only the people you invite.

How to Join our Discord Server

Follow the steps below to guide you through the process of creating an account and joining our Discord server. There are two options to access the Discord server.

Option (A) Install and use the Discord app on your computer or smart device.

Option (B) Use a web browser to access Discord (easiest method for occasional use).

Chromebook users – Chromebook users only have the option of accessing Discord through a web browser at this time.

Note: Using the Discord app option does have an advantage but either option will work. If you plan to only use a web browser (option B), click on the “Open Discord in your browser” button instead of the “Download” button as described in step 1 below. You will be required to create an account regardless of which option you choose to use.

Step 1: Install the software

Whether you are installing the Discord app on your phone or on your computer, the first step is to install the software. Going to the Discord website (open a web browser and go to https:// will prompt you to download the appropriate software for your device. Once there, click the “Download” button to download the software. It will be prominently displayed on the page, and say something similar to ‘Download for Windows’, ‘Download for Mac’, ‘Download from the App Store’, or ‘Download from the Google Play Store’. Two examples of what this page might look like are shown below.

From this point on, we will be assuming you are installing Discord on your computer. The following screenshots are from my computer, which is a Mac. Your screen may look slightly different on a Windows computer or smart phone, but you should be able to follow along.

Step 2: Create an account

Discord Servers require that you create an account in order to log in and interact on them. To create an account, click on the ‘Need an Account? Register’ link located below the login box. If you already have an account, you can log in and skip to step 3.

On the next screen, enter your email address, a username (suggested that you use your name), a strong password, your date of birth, and click ‘Continue’.

Please Note: You may be asked to enter your cell phone number as Discord is in the process of changing to the use of cell phone numbers for account verification via text messaging. Only one cell phone number per account is currently allowed.

You may be presented with the following screen. It is called a captcha. A captcha is intended to prevent abuse of a system by asking questions or performing a task that computers would not be able to do so easily. Check the box, follow the instructions, and you will be all set!

Once you have completed the captcha (if asked), you may be asked to verify your email address. This is to confirm ownership the email address that you’re using to sign up for an account. To verify, go to your email account, look for an email from Discord, and click the link inside it to confirm you own the email address.

It may take a few minutes for the email to arrive. If you have not received the email within 10 minutes, please check your spam folder.

Once you have logged in to the application, you will see a screen that looks like this.

Step 3: Join the OCBC Community Discord Server

The final step is to join the OCBC Community Discord Server! As Discord servers are joined by invitation only, you must use an invitation to join. You can use the invitation link provided below. Try clicking on the link. If that doesn’t work, copy and paste the link to an open web browser on the same device (your computer or smart device) that you used to create your Discord account. Or, you can click on the green plus symbol found in the left column (shown in pic above), and paste the link information into the new pop-up window.

Invitation to the OCBC Community Server:

The link expires 9/1/2022. Email or call Scott should the invite link not work for you.

Once you have entered the invite link info, your Discord application will indicate that you have been invited and give you the option to join. Click ‘Join The OCBC Community Discord Server’, and you’re in! Well, at least you are in the front door. To access the rest of the server’s channels you must:

1) Please review the information found in the ‘#welcome-start-here’ channel (click on it).

2) Please review the information found in the ‘code-of- conduct’ channel (click on it).
